Kindergarten is such an exciting time for kids; they've waited so long and the big day is almost here! For parents, it's typically a mixed bag: excitement, pride, fear, and a dash of anxiety make up a typical incoming Kindergarten parent. That's exactly why The Barn Yard in Collegeville started hosting "Meet and Greet" events four years ago. Kindergarten Meet & Greets are special plays organized by school where kids have a chance to meet their soon to be classmates, exchange likes & hopefully make a new friend; this way there are at least a few friendly faces on the first day! Bonus: the relaxed atmosphere at the Barn Yard gives parents plenty of time to chat, mingle, and exchange contact info; after all, Kindergarten parents (especially 1st timers) forge a tribe all their own. You'll need fellow parents to navigate the year, bounce ideas off each other and share information, They're open specifically to incoming Kindergarteners & each participating elementary has their own designated play so you're sure to meet families you'll be crossing paths with for the next few years- at minimum!
Personally, I can attest to how special these plays are & how they can lead to lasting connections not only between classmates, but adults too. My oldest daughter participated in the first round- she met a kid who was in her class- our families hit it off too & we all just celebrated the 4th of July together for the 2nd time. I really cannot recommend attending enough. Check your school's date & sign up- spots will fill quickly (only one night per elementary), so grab your ticket sooner rather than later!
